This beautiful, Japanese printed paper in crimson and pink flowers is called "Katazome-shi," literally meaning stencil-dyed (katazome) papers (-shi), and is also referred to as "Wazome." As the name implies, they are stenciled with traditional materials and the care that comes with craftsmanship, by hand, to produce unforgettable, intense colors and patterns. We matched this paper with our crimson, silk textured binding cloth and a white, Unryu trim between the two. The torn edges of the cover and trim make for a natural and rustic look.
Our large size journals are 9 3/4” tall by 6 1/2” wide.
We make every book to order by hand in our studio. We bind the books in a traditional binding and we sew our book blocks by hand with needle and Irish linen thread so the book will lie flat when open.
As all books are made by hand and to order, please keep in mind that production will be complete 1-3 weeks from the submission of your order, at which point it will be shipped to you. You can choose between standard Media Mail shipping (2-10 business days for delivery from ship date) and Priority shipping (1-3 business days) at checkout.
We offer many different cover styles using beautiful printed and textured papers from around the world, and we can customize the a cover style to your liking. Just ask us.
The inside pages using an 80# (118 gsm) text paper in natural white. The paper has a textured surface and works well with pens, pencils and felt pens. Some of our customers even use it for watercolors.
Pages can be blank, printed with lines or a dot grid (lines and dots are spaced 1/4 apart and printed in a soft gray).
All books have 92 pages (46 leaves), or optionally 188 pages (94 leaves). The 92 page book is 1/2” thick and the 188 page book is 7/8” thick.
The first page of the book can be personalized with custom text to make the book uniquely yours. To opt for a custom title page, please choose from the Personalization option.
